Liturgy & Theology of Healing in Jewish Tradition

Liturgy and Theology of Healing in Jewish Tradition
Led by Rabbi Ariel Milan-Polisar
Two Wednesdays, November 4 & 18, 10:30-11:45 am (Hybrid)

Jewish tradition has long wrestled with illness, suffering, and the hope for healing—not with easy answers, but with a rich and sometimes contradictory body of prayer, text, and ritual. We will explore how Jews across centuries have understood the relationship between body, soul, and the Divine in times of sickness and recovery. We’ll study the origins and evolution of the Mi Shebeirach prayer, Biblical and rabbinic sources on illness and divine providence, and our own experiences with liturgy in the face of illness. Along the way, we’ll ask: What does it mean to pray for healing when a cure isn’t possible? How has Jewish theology held together belief in a healing God with the reality of unhealed pain?

This series is offered at no cost for congregants and $10 per session for non-members.
