The Power of Preparation, Repentance, and Repair

The Power of Preparation, Repentance, and Repair
Led by Rabbi Jennifer Frenkel
Two Wednesdays, August 6 & 13, 10:30-11:45 am

One of the most awe- and fear-filled moments of the High Holy Day liturgy is the Unetaneh Tokef prayer, where we confront the magnitude of acknowledging that we are not in full control of what happens in our lives. Who will pass by fire, and who by flood, who will pass in their old age, and who before they are ready…

The prayer also holds out a promise that our actions matter and have meaning and consequences. It’s not too late – teshuvah (repentance), tefilah (prayer), and tzedakah (charity/righteous action) can avert a bad decree.

What does this prayer really mean? What is the nature of teshuvah and what are its limits? What is the role of the self in tefilah? And what does it mean to put tzedakah in action?

There is no cost to congregants; $10/session for non-members. Registration is required.
