First Thursdays: Exploring Jewish Views of the Afterlife – Contemporary Implications

Exploring Jewish Views of the Afterlife – Contemporary Implications, with Reb Simcha Raphael, Ph. D.

Does Judaism believe in the afterlife? Unequivocally, the answer is yes! In the traditions of Jewish mysticism are found extensive teachings on the afterlife journey of the soul. Through an exploration of sacred texts, storytelling and discussion, we shall explore these teachings and discover applications of Jewish views of the afterlife in responding to the human encounter with death.

Reb Simcha Raphael, Ph.D., is Founding Director of the DA’AT Institute for Death Awareness, Advocacy and Training. He works as a psychotherapist and spiritual director in Philadelphia. Ordained as a Rabbinic Pastor by Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, he has written extensively on death and afterlife and is the author of the groundbreaking Jewish Views of the Afterlife. His website is www.daatinstitute.net.

Our First Thursdays series is facilitated by Rabbi Richard Address.
