From Prophets to Pulpits

From Prophets to Pulpits: The Evolution of the Rabbinate
Led by Rabbi Ariel Milan-Polisar
Three Wednesdays, April 15, 22 & 29 (Hybrid)

What does it mean to be a rabbi—and how did that role come to be? This class traces the development of Jewish religious leadership from the Torah’s priests and prophets, through the sages of the Talmud, to the diverse models of the modern rabbinate. By exploring classic texts and contemporary examples, we’ll examine how authority, learning, and communal leadership shifted over time—and how today’s rabbis continue to adapt ancient traditions to modern Jewish life.

This series is offered at no cost for congregants and $10 per session for non-members.
