SUMMARY:First Thursdays: LGBTQ+ Aging with PRIDE
DESCRIPTION:This presentation led by Reva Farenback-Brateman looks at challenges faced by the elder LGBTQ+ community & JFCS resources provided.\nPhysical health, emotional well-being, financial stability, and social engagement are essential for successful aging. Sadly, these are some of the areas in which many LGBTQ+ elders face significant barriers. LGBTQ+ Aging with Pride, a group for LGBTQ+ elders age 50 and older, was created by JFCS to offer a safe place where folks can be their authentic selves, meet others in the community and share experiences. While today there is a lot of emphasis on LGBTQ+ young people, come hear from the creator of this group and some of its members, Mitch Augarten and Don Levitsky, who have survived and thrived, as new threats to the LGBTQ+ community are on the horizon. \nReva Farenback-Brateman, Creator and Facilitator of LGBTQ+, has been a Geriatric Case Manager and Community Educator at the Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Southern NJ since March 2005 Geriatric Case Manager and Community Educator at Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Southern NJ since March 2005. As a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) since 2015 and other specialized training in dementia care, aging, LGBTQ+ community, and Parkinson’s Disease, Reva is uniquely qualified to present this important and timely First Thursday topic. Reva has been the Creator of LGBTQ+ Aging with Pride since April 2018 and is an excellent contact for the resources available in this area for the Aging LGBTQ+ community. Mitch Augarten and Don Levitsky, members of the LGBTQ+ Aging with Pride group, will be contributing to Reva’s lecture. \nNo charge for congregants. $15 per non-congregant in person/per device via Zoom.\nRegistration required so we may adequately prepare and to receive Zoom login information (coming soon). \n \n\nFirst Thursday programs bring you guest speakers, including congregants and rabbis from around the country, to share their expertise on topics of interest. We will also include several discussions of films with Jewish themes.\nSponsored by our Adult Education Committee.\n
