His distinctive style and choice of subjects bridged the gap from the “Golden Age of Musicals” (epitomized by Rodgers & Hammerstein and their peers) to shows like Rent and eventually Hamilton. How did Sondheim’s Jewish heritage influence his career path (if at all)? What Jewish themes can be found in his wide-ranging repertoire?\nCome find out why this seminal figure continues to polarize the musical theater community, in our final First Thursday of the 2025-2026 season, led by our own Mark Pinzur. As with any First Thursday involving the musical arts, in-person attendance is recommended.\nThis program is open to congregants at no charge and $15 per person/screen for non-members.\nRegistration is required by Tuesday, June 2.\n \n\nFirst Thursday programs bring you guest speakers, including congregants and rabbis from around the country, to share their expertise on topics of interest.
